Ryuun Yamaguchi山口龍雲
After graduating from a vocational training school in Beppu City, Yamaguchi studied under Shounzai Ikuno, the first bamboo craftsman to be certificated as a Living National Treasure.
He was inspired by the movement of the waves that break and tie and the flames that flicker in the wind. He has been highly praised overseas for his original forms that make full use of his outstanding techniques, and many of his works are in the collections of art lovers in Europe and the United States. One of the characteristics of his works is the graceful, wavy style that makes the most of the flexibility of bamboo. While emphasizing traditional techniques, he is not bound by them, and his style of freely shaping transparent and flexible thread-like bamboo strands has opened up a new world of bamboo craftsmanship.
