This one-of-a-kind guinomi sake cup is by Kusuo Baba, the second-generation Shin-emon. Its crystalline glaze stands out for its beauty, creating a scene reminiscent of light shimmering on water.

The technique of forming beautiful crystal patterns within a glaze was discovered by chance during firing at the royal manufactory in Sèvres, established under the influence of Louis XV and Madame de Pompadour, and developed from there. Achieving consistent firing results is extremely difficult. Shin-emon Kiln has overcome these technical challenges and mastered the technique to produce works of art for everyday use. The crystals appearing on the white porcelain of Arita ware are misted with blue, evoking a sunlit sea and the beauty of gemstones. When tea or sake is poured in, the crystals sparkle with a dreamlike radiance that invites you to lose track of time.

Forms of tea ware that developed in China from the Song through the Ming dynasties were introduced to Japan, where the guinomi emerged as a cup for ordinary people to enjoy sake informally. Shin-emon Kiln's guinomi are smaller versions of tea cups from the Ming and Qing dynasties, making them versatile vessels for sake, tea, and other drinks.
